A Comissão de Meio Ambiente , Defesa do Consumidor e Fiscalização e Controle (CMA) do Senado Federal realiza, na próxima segunda-feira (7), o Colóquio Internacional sobre a Carta da Terra, uma parceria com a União Internacional para a Conservação da Natureza e dos Recursos Naturais (IUCN) e a Earth Charter International (Carta da Terra Internacional). Além dos senadores Rollemberg e Cristovam Buarque, debate contará com especialistas estrangeiros e brasileiros, entre eles o filósofo  Leonardo Boff.

Carta da Terra é uma declaração de princípios éticos voltados à construção de uma sociedade global sustentável, justa e pacífica. De acordo com osenador Rodrigo Rollemberg (PSB/DF), presidente da CMA, o debate do assunto com especialistas estrangeiros e brasileiros  trará importantes subsídios para a Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre Desenvolvimento Sustentável - Rio+20, que acontece no próximo mês. "Vamos discutir de que forma a Carta contribuirá para  o  futuro que queremos, dando ênfase à responsabilidade compartilhada nas diversas questões relacionadas ao desenvolvimento sustentável no planeta,”, afirmou.

A ministra do Meio Ambiente, Izabella Teixeira, participará da abertura do evento que terá início às 9 horas, na sala  6 da ala Nilo Coelho, no Senado. Também farão palestras durante o colóquio Ruud Lubbers, ministro de Estado dos Países Baixos e fundador da Comissão da Carta da Terra; Leonardo Boff, teólogo, filósofo e escritor; Luiz Fernando Krieger Merico, coordenador nacional da UICN no Brasil; Brendan Mackey,  professor da Griffith University, Queensland/Austrália; ministro Herman Benjamin, do Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ); e José Carlos Carvalho, ex-ministro do Meio Ambiente.

Além de Rollemberg, também comporão mesas de debates os senadores Cristovam Buarque (PDT/DF) e Jorge Viana (PT/AC).
